Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) and the Donkey
After the Battle of Khaibar, as Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) was making his way back home, a donkey presented itself to him and said, “O Prophet of Allah, hear my plea.” How could the Mercy unto the Worlds not accept its request?! Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) stopped in his tracks and asked, “What do you wish for?” The donkey replied, “My name is Yazeed ibn Shihaab. Allah Ta’ala placed me in the 60th generation of my family’s lineage, and all of my ancestors had a Prophet travel upon them except me. Ya Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), I too desire having you ride on me. You may even say I am deserving of this, since just as how I’m the last of my family, so too are you the last of the Prophets.” Hearing this, Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) accepted the donkey’s request, rode on it, and changed its name to Ya’foor. The Endurance of Hazrat Bilaal (Radhiyallahu Anhu)
Hazrat Bilaal (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anh) was the Abyssinian slave of Umayya ibn Khalaf, one of the most violent of the polytheists. Hazrat Bilaal (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anh) had a heart of pure light, but Umayya ibn Khalaf was an implacable enemy of Islam and of the Beloved Rasool (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam).
The time came when Hazrat Bilaal (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anh) received the blessing of faith. Umayya ibn Khalaf found out about it, so he started taking his slave out into the desert and subjecting him to appalling tortures in the hope of forcing him to abandon the religion of Islam. He would make Hazrat Bilaal (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anh) lie down on the blazing hot sand at the time when the sun was at its height, pile heavy stones on top of him and beat him with a spiked club. As if this was not enough, he would not even stop at kicking his feet and beating him to the point of exhaustion, but went on to stick thorns in his blessed body till blood oozed from the wounds.
In spite of all this, the only sound said by Hazrat Bilaal (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anh) were the names of his loved ones, “Ya Ahad! Ya Ahmad!” The heart of the venerable Bilaal (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anh) was so full of their love and affection that the pricking of the thorns and the severity of the beating did nothing to diminish his ardent faith. Quite the contrary, the more diabolical his suffering, the more painful his agony, the greater was his love and affection towards the Beloved Rasool (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) and the stronger his faith became. Despite such monstrous cruelty and torment, Hazrat Bilaal (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anh) never once yielded to Ibn Khalaf, for he had sworn to sacrifice body and soul in the cause of the Truth and for the sake of the love of Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam).
As for the unbelieving Umayya, every day he would bury Hazrat Bilaal (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anh) in the sand saying, “You black slave, unless you give up this religion of Islam, I am going to treat you to beatings far worse than this; I’ll handle you so roughly that I may end up killing you.” Those cries of, “O One! O Ahmad!” made Umayya ibn Khalaf lose all self-control. But one day those cries of his Beloveds reached the ears of Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddiq (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anh), who happened to be passing by. Hazrat Abu Bakr (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anh) walked closer to where the sound was coming from and saw that Umayya’s slave, though worn out by the torture of his heartless master, was consoling himself by persistently pronouncing the noble names of Allah and His Blessed Messenger (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). Tears sprang to his blessed eyes. This servant of Allah was being cruelly tortured by his master, and all because he was saying the name of Allah and His Rasool (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam).
Not long afterwards, Hazrat Abu Bakr had occasion to pass that way again. The sight of yet another beating session, and the sorrowful groans of “Ya Ahad! Ya Ahmad!” were more than he could bear. He came running to Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) and said, “O Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), Bilaal is consumed with the fire of your love. The polytheists have tortured him, flayed his bare body with thorny branches and left him bleeding all over. Yet while the treacherous Umayya is beating him, the blessed Bilaal says nothing but “Allah is One; the Messenger is Ahmad”. Submitting to the divine decree, he endures that agony with patience and trust. We must buy Bilaal and pay his master any price he may ask, for we must save him at all costs.”
Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) then said, “O Abu Bakr, act as my agent and pay half the price on my behalf, I shall owe you the money. Go now and purchase Bilaal.” Hazrat Abu Bakr (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anh) responded at once, “In this matter I shall spend whatever I can.” He went straight to Umayya’s house and knocked at his door. As soon as the unbelieving tyrant appeared, the venerable Abu Bakr (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anh) lashed him with his tongue saying, “You enemy of Allah, why do you inflict such beatings on this innocent man of Allah, Bilaal? You enemy of Allah, what kind of envy and animosity is this? What kind of enmity is this? You are beating a friend of Allah, yet if you had faith, sincerity and respect even for your own religion your conscience would not let you be so cruel to a person true to his beliefs. You would have some compassion for him. But it is well known that you have no loyalty even to your own religion, no faith in your own idols.” The cruel Umayya merely replied, “Since you have so much compassion, would you buy this slave if I offered to sell him to you?” Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddiq (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anh) said, “If you will sell me this Sultan you disparagingly call a slave, I shall make numerous prostrations of gratitude to Allah.”
Now, Hazrat Abu Bakr (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anh) had a slave who was very handsome and strong, but whose heart was sour and his disposition mean. He offered Umayya an exchange and brought this slave to show him. It struck Umayya ibn Khalaf as odd that Hazrat Abu Bakr (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anh) should be so willing to part with this handsome slave, who was obviously a strong worker, so he demanded a sum of money in addition. Hazrat Abu Bakr (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anh) therefore paid out two hundred pieces of silver along with the handsome slave. Having purchased Hazrat Bilaal (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anh), he then emancipated him from slavery for the Pleasure of Allah.
As Hazrat Abu Bakr (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anh) was leaving with Hazrat Bilaal (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anh), he heard Umayya laughing behind his back as if he thought he had cheated him. He turned and asked, “What reason have you to laugh like that?” But Umayya went on laughing as he said, “You have swapped this fine fellow for an ugly brute who is not worth two cents in my opinion, and you’ve paid me cash into the bargain. I’ve cheated you right down the line, that is why I’m laughing.” To this, Siddiq-e-Akbar (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anh) replied, “You stupid fool! Just like a child you have swapped a precious jewel for a couple of walnuts. I do not look at his outward appearance. I look at his essence, at the reality of him. You can see only his shape and colour, his external form. But I would gladly give all I possess to ransom Bilaal, for he is in truth a matchless jewel, a priceless gem. His worth and value are known only to Allah and His Beloved Messenger (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). In short, no amount of money could represent his true price. When you look at it like that, I got Bilaal from you very cheaply. To Allah be Praise, that this honour should fall to my lot.” Crushed by these words, the unbelieving Umayya sighed, “Alas! What have I done? If only I had asked for more money or goods!”
Taking Hazrat Bilaal (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anh) by the hand, Hazrat Abu Bakr (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anh) led him joyfully into the presence of the Beloved Rasool (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). Rescued from the prison of pain, Hazrat Bilaal (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anh) had reached the beauty of Allah Ta’ala’s Beloved Messenger (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). No words can describe the pure delight in which he was immersed, now that he had attained the radiant presence of the Beloved of Almighty Allah and won the attention of the greatest of creation, the bearer of the Divine Message, our Beloved Master Muhammad Mustafa (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) showered Hazrat Abu Bakr (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anh) with affection because of the service he had performed. “O Abu Bakr,” he said, “As I told you I will owe you the money for Bilaal’s ransom.” But Hazrat Abu Bakr (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anh) replied, “O Beloved Messenger (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), Bilaal and I are slaves at your court. One of your slaves bought another of your slaves and set him, who was longing for your beauty, free. As for this servant of yours, I have no wish whatsoever to be liberated from your service.”
Subhaanallah! What love the Blessed Sahaabah had for Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) that they would sacrifice anything for his sake!
We learn from this incident that no matter how much calamities we are faced with, if we endure them with patience, we will definitely earn the Pleasure of Allah Ta’ala and His Beloved Rasool (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), and our reward will be beyond comprehension. We also learn that no matter what we are faced with, we should never compromise our love for Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam).
May Allah Ta’ala grant us the Taufeeq to follow in the footsteps of Hazrat Bilaal (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anh) and to endure calamities with patience, and may He in His Infinite Mercy make us the slaves of Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), Ameen.

Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) and the Camel
A camel was once making a loud noise while Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) was present in the garden of an Ansari, which later began to sob after seeing Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), with tears falling from its eyes. Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) went near to it and stroked its head with his blessed hands, upon which it became content and silent. He then enquired of the owner of the camel and was told that it belonged to a certain Ansari, who was immediately called for and said to, “Allah Ta’ala has granted you people control over these animals. Thus it is obligatory on you to show mercy to them. Your camel has complained to me that you give it little food and make it work more than its ability.” [Abu Dawood]
An Ansari’s camel once became stubborn, with none able to control it as it began to attack people. People informed Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) of this who then wished to approach it, but they pleaded with him, “O Prophet of Allah, this camel is attacking and biting people like a rabid dog.” Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) replied, “I have no fear for it,” and proceeded in its direction. Upon seeing Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) the camel proceeded to bow its head in Sajdah and Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) thereafter stroked its head with his blessed hand, causing it to become completely quiet and subservient. He then held the camel and gave it to its owner saying, “Every creation of Allah believes and accepts that I am the Messenger of Allah, except Kuffaar jinn and humans.” [Mishkaat Shareef; Zarqaani]
A Dog’s Love For Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam)
In the year 1258 (675 A.H.), there lived a tyrant Mongolian leader by the name of Haloko, who invaded Baghdad and killed thousands of Ulama. This paved the way for Christian missionaries to preach Christianity and convert Muslims openly. Haloko himself was married to a Christian woman. One day, a delegation of the most notable Christians headed for Baghdad to attend a grand party to celebrate the conversion of a key Mongolian leader to Christianity. The Mongolian leader had his favourite hunting dog on a leash nearby.
One of the Christians then began congratulating the Mongolian leader on his wise decision and then proceeded to revile the blessed character of our Beloved Rasool (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). The dog started acting violently and jumped on the Christian, scratching him badly. It took several men to make the dog let go of the Christian. One of the attendees turned to the Christian and said, “The dog did this because of what you said about Muhammad (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam).” The Christian brushed aside the man’s comment and arrogantly said, “No, that was not the reason for the dog’s reaction. When I was speaking, I pointed with my hand and the dog thought that I was going to hit him.” The Christian appeared unmoved by the incident and continued to insult the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). At that time the dog, in such a rage, cut itself loose, jumped on the Christian and sank its molars in the man’s neck. It snatched his throat out and the man died immediately. This incident caused 40 000 Mongolians to embrace Islam. [Ad-Durar al-Kaaminah, Vol. 3]
From the above incident it can be seen that even a dog has so much love for Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) that it cannot bear to hear any insult on the Beloved Rasool (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). Hazrat Allama Qaazi Ayaaz (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anh) states that the Ulama of this Ummah have agreed upon that, “An Islamic king should order the killing of the person that swears Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), finds fault in him, his family, his religion or any of his blessed habits, compares him to something unworthy, as well as that person that curses him or says something terrible to afflict him. In all of these cases the individual will become a murtad (apostate) and shall be killed. Muhammad bin Sahnoon has stated that the person who insults Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) is a kaafir, and anyone who has a doubt regarding him being a kaafir and his punishment, is also a kaafir. The punishment of the individual that disrespects Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) is death.” [Shifa Sharif, Vol. 2] Just as Hazrat Allama Qaazi Ayaaz (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anh) has stated, similarly, even the dog knows that the punishment for disrespecting Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) is death.
A’la Hazrat Imam Ahle Sunnat Ash Shah Imam Ahmad Raza Khan (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anh) has stated in his Al-Malfooz Shareef that if a person was in a jungle with one glass of water and he comes across a kaafir and a dog who are both dying of thirst, he must give the glass of water to the dog because the dog believes in Allah and his Rasool (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) while the kaafir is a disbeliever. Some people might argue that the kaafir is still a human being and has a right over the dog for the water. If a person has true Imaan and true love for the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) he should consider the following: Imagine you are in that jungle with a glass of water, and you come across the hunting dog of the Mongolian leader on one side, who cannot bear even a single word of insult on the Beloved Rasool (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), and on the other side you have the vile Christian man whose mouth is only filled with blasphemy and insults on Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). Now ask yourself, who would you give the water to?
We must learn from this that there is no compromise when it comes to the love of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) and that whoever it may be, family, friend or relative, if they insult the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) they should no longer be dear to us and we must hate them for the sake of Allah. He who is the enemy of Almighty Allah and his Beloved Rasool (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) can NEVER be dear to us. As was said by Hazrat Maulana Muhammad Ibrahim Khushtar Siddiqui Qadri Razvi (Rahmatullah Alaih), “Let us not live with them; let us consider them as our enemies. Neither must we listen to them nor sit in their company.”
Another lesson to be learnt from the above incident is that love for the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) can only result in success. If a dog attending a Christian ceremony displays its love for Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) and converts 40 000 Mongolians to Muslims, what cannot we achieve by displaying to the world our love for the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) and by acting on the Shariah and Sunnah that he has given us?
We should always remember that true love for Nabi-e-Kareem (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) is success and salvation in this world and in the hereafter Insha Allah. May Allah Ta’ala grant us all the Taufeeq to have true love for Rasoolullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam and to practice upon the Shariah and the Sunnah, Ameen.
Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Vasallam) and the Deer
A female deer that lived in the forest with two of its fawns was once walking somewhere when she got caught in a trap and was powerless to escape. In this state of desperation, she fortunately saw Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Vasallam) advancing towards her and cried out, “O Prophet of Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Vasallam), have mercy on me.” Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Vasallam) heard her plea and asked, “What do you need?” The deer responded, “I am caught in a trap while my two children are at a mountain nearby. Release me and let me feed them one last time. You have my guarantee that I’ll return afterwards.”
Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Vasallam) replied, “I’ll free you and wait here. Come as soon as you are finished.” He then released the deer and stood by the trap in wait.
While it was gone, the hunter of the trap, who was not a Muslim, appeared and was informed by Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Vasallam) of the entire incident. The man replied, “It won’t be good if that deer doesn’t return.” Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Vasallam) responded, “You’ll see for yourself whether it returns or not.”
As promised, after feeding its fawns, the deer returned to the trap and placed its head on the feet of Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Vasallam). Seeing this miracle, the hunter then too lowered his head and accepted Islam, making both him and the deer recipients of Rasoolullah’s (Sallallahu Alaihi Vasallam) mercy. [Shifa Shareef ]
Incidents happened on Birth of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Vasallam)
- INCIDENTS IN MAKKAH :
There were a number of people at the Ka’bah at the time of the birth of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) when all the idols fell prostrate. Some of the people picked up and erected the fallen idols but the idols again fell down on their faces. They propped them up again but the idols collapsed for the third time. One of the persons present, Osman bin Habiras said to his companions that something very serious must have happened, causing the idols to fall repeatedly. In reply, the idols miraculously spoke in Arabic and said the following:
“We idols (all over the earth) have fallen down to bow to a child just born, whose light has lit the universe from East to West. All idols all over the world have fallen (at the exact time of the birth of the Promised Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), with a view to honour this child! Emperors of the earth have been frightened tonight. The Emperor of Persia was grief-stricken and the (Magi) fire quenched. Stopped forever is the heavenly information by which the jinns used to foretell. O Children of Quassa leave aside idolatry and come towards Islam, so that ye may become owners of the garden of eternal bliss.” [Ahsanul Muwa’iz, pg 25]
These idols remained prostrate on the floor for a full twenty-four hours. Any effort to pick them up and to erect them throughout the world was unsuccessful. It was only the next day that they were refitted and this was witnessed by thousands of people worldwide.
After three days Hazrat Abdul Mutallib (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anh) took his grandchild to the Ka’bah and named him Muhammad (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). As soon as the child was taken to the Ka’bah for the naming ceremony, the four corners of the walls of the Ka’bah spoke and declared: “There is none worthy of worship except Allah and Muhammad is the Seal of Prophethood.”
- INCIDENTS IN PERSIA :
At the date and time of the birth of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) the following miracles took place in Persia:
- The fire in the Magi temple of the Zoroastrians which had been alight for thousands of years became quenched for the first time in history.
- Fourteen towers of the royal palace of Nausherwan, the Emperor of Persia, broke and fell.
- The famous stone, on which the fabulous throne of Persia was kept, cracked.
- The deep and fast flowing river Sawa in the Persian Empire dried up instantly.
- The river Samawa in the Persian Empire which had been dry for the past thousand years or more started flowing immediately.
- The tower of the palace on the River Tigris, which was built so strongly that nothing could damage it for hundreds of years, broke and fell to the amazement of all, without any logical reason.
- INCIDENTS IN YEMEN :
There lived in Yemen a man named Amer, who was praying with his wife before an idol. At the time of the birth of Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) he saw a Noor (light) spreading light from East to West and from North to South. In this light he saw the gates of heaven open. Many angels descended, prostrating themselves. In this light he saw the trees and the hills also prostrating themselves. Then the idol in front of him fell on its face. As he went to lift the idol it said:
“The Promised Prophet, whose coming was being looked forward to for hundreds of years, has just been born. The trees and the stones shall speak with him. For his sake the moon will split into two.” So shocked was Amer that he asked his wife if she also heard what he did. She answered, “Yes, but please ask the idol where this child has been born and what is his name.” The idol informed them that the child’s name was Muhammad Mustafa (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), he had been born in Makkah and that it would be he, through whom the whole universe would be blessed. Amer had a deformed daughter who was also seeing and hearing all that was taking place. Consequently, she prayed aloud,“O Allah, in the name of Muhammad who has just been born, I pray that I be cured.” At once she was completely cured. Subhaanallah!
So impressed were they all at this miracle performed by merely taking his name, the family journeyed to Makkah to pay homage to this blessed child. They traced Hazrat Abdul Mutallib (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anh) and asked him to show them this amazing child named Muhammad (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasllam). On seeing the marvellous face of Muhammad Mustafa (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) Amer collapsed out of joy and died on the spot. [Ahsanul Muwa’iz, pg 23-24]
- INCIDENTS IN ROME :
The Roman Emperor Justin II was frightened on the date of the birth of Muhammad (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). When he went into the Royal Chapel to pray on that morning he was surprised to find that the statue of Jesus Christ had very strangely come out of its firm base and was lying on the ground. It reminded him of the foretelling of Hazrat Esa (Alaihis Salaam) that on the day of the birth of the Promised Prophet all idols all over the world would fall down. As he lifted up the statue it again fell on its face on the floor and declared:
“A child has been born with his foreskin circumcised miraculously. This child would be the greatest personage to come on earth and he would be from amongst the circumcised people. This baby was not from a Jewish family but from the brethren of the Jews. He would be a destroyer of idols and would lay the foundation for the destruction of idolatry. Those who would not listen to his teachings would be losers in this earth and in the hereafter. He would be the light of learning, which would be the cause of filling the earth with wisdom and knowledge and removing the darkness of ignorance.”
